The Election Commission of India will announce the polling dates for the 2018 Karnataka Assembly Elections at a press conference at Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi, at 11 a.m on Tuesday.
The lead up to the polls has been intense over several weeks, with rallies across the State by Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
To draw more voters, the Election Commission of India is planning to hold elections midweek this time .
“Clubbing election date with a weekend saw many voters travelling out. To prevent skipping of voting, the election date could be in the middle of the week so that the urban voter comes to the polling booth instead of travelling,” sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer told The Hindu.
Karnataka is one of the few States in the country where the Congress, under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has power. With the BJP sweeping the polls in several States since coming to power at the Centre in 2014, it remains to be seen whether the party can establish a foothold in south, which has for long been dominated by regional parties.
