Kannada varsity silver jubilee fete from today

Eight-day celebration to begin today

Releasing of a postal envelope, symposia on various topics including the literary, social and cultural development of the State, its language, releasing of books brought out by the university, and a host of cultural events among other programmes will mark the silver jubilee celebrations of Hampi Kannada University, spread over eight days beginning September 12.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the celebrations on campus on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Mallika Ghanti, Vice-Chancellor, said she had planned to organise a variety of events throughout the year. Around 500 books would be brought out during the year, of which 25 would be released on the inaugural day.

Chandrashekar Kambar, founder Vice-Chancellor; Kamala Hampana, noted litterateur; Dinesh Amin Mattu, press advisor to Chief Minister; S.G. Siddaramaiah, chairman, Kannada Development Authority; Chandra Pujari, professor, Development Studies; and K. Marulasiddappa, chairman, Kuvempu Bhasha Bharathi Authority are among others who will inaugurate the various symposia during the eight days.

The university had also planned to honour former V-Cs of the university and registrars in recognition of their contribution over the years. As many as 5,000 people are expected to participate.

‘Tatvapada gayana’, dramas, ‘bayalaata’ by press reporters of Ballari, ‘Manteswami Katha Bhaga’ are among the cultural events scheduled to be held.
