Police Commissioner Soumendu Mukherjee is stated to have assured Kannada activists that action will be taken against leaders of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi (MES) for allegedly using abusive language against the Regional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram recently.

Belagavi District Kannada Organisations Action Committee president Ashok Chandargi, who staged a protest along with representatives of various other Kannada organisations in front of the Police Commissioner’s office on Thursday, later told the Commissioner that the MES leaders used abusive and filthy language against Mr. Jayaram during a protest on the Zilla Panchayat premises recently. He also demanded that suitable action be taken for abusing Mr. Jayaram, who is also the District Magistrate.

The protest was led by MES leader and former MLA Manohar Kinekar and other office-bearer of the organisation’s Belagavi city and taluk units, asking the ZP authorities to issue government orders and notifications in Marathi language.
