Kalyani restoration work begins

The historical ‘Kalyani’ (Bannanthamma Kola), a square water tank, at Damanahalli in Pandavapura taluk is undergoing restoration. The local gram panchayat has taken up the restoration work of decades-old ‘Kalyani’ following requests from villagers.

Mangala Nagesh, gram panchayat president, inaugurated the works on Friday. Addressing presspersons, she said that the panchayat has decided to restore the Kalyani under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

Two months

The renovation work includes the removal of silt, waste and weeds, and strengthening of the pond. It will be completed in two months.

The Kalyani is one of the historical tanks in Pandavapura taluk. Locals used to fetch water from it in the past.

Vice-president Chaluvaraju, panchayat development officer (PDO) Poornima and others were present.
