Kalaburagi-Bidar line to be commissioned in February 2017

The long-pending Kalaburagi-Bidar new rail line will be commissioned in February 2017 after the completion of the ongoing works on laying rail lines and construction of railway stations between Kalaburagi and Humnabad, Ajai Kumar Dubey, Divisional Railway Manager, Central Railway, has said.

Speaking at the flagging of ceremony of the Gulbarga-Hyderabad Inter-city Express on Monday, he outlined the works taken up by the Railways in the Kalaburagi region.

He said that the fourth platform at the Gulbarga Railway Station, constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.5 crore, would be commissioned in September and the second foot overbridge along with a lift in the fourth platform, set up at a cost of Rs. 2.6 crore, would be commissioned by March 2017.

The road overbridge at Mother Teresa School on the New Jewargi Road, taken up at a cost of Rs. 20 crore, was expected to be completed by June 2017.

The road overbridge on Kalaburagi-Afzalpur Road, taken up at a cost of Rs. 5.5 crore, would be completed by December. The installation of closed-circuit television cameras at the Gulbarga Railway Station under the Nirbhaya fund would also be completed in the same month. Mr. Dubey said that the rail underbridge at Tarfile near the Gulbarga Railway Station, taken up at a cost of Rs. 3.9 crore, would be completed by September and the second entry to the Gulbarga Railway Station would be completed on August 31.

The Railways also proposes to take up the work on a road overbridge to replace the level crossing at Hirapur and Balram Chowk in Chittapur at an estimated cost of Rs. 56 crore. The Gangapur Road Railway Station would be developed and a foot overbridge would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.5 crore.

Pit-line

Mr. Dubey said that the Railways had completed the work on constructing a pit-line for carriage maintenance of 26 coaches in Gulbarga Railway Station at a cost of Rs. 6.21 crore and provided cover over platform in the first platform at the Gulbaga Railway Station at a cost of Rs. 54.64 lakh. The Railways had started using bio-diesel at Wadi Railway Consumer Depots.
