Mouting pressure on Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao to resign from his post following reports of allegations of corruption in the anti-corruption watchdog, the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) said that Justice Rao must resign on moral grounds.

In a release, District General Secretary, B. Bhagwan Reddy said that when corruption is taking place inside the anti-corruption institution where the son of the Lokayukta has been accused of involvement, then the Lokayukta holds no moral right to continue in the office.

Stating that the Lokayukta must allow a fair and just investigation to take place, which was possible when he steps down from his position, the release said that to protect the dignity and integrity of the institution, Justice Rao must resign.

The release said that former Lokayukta like, Justice N. Venkatachala and N. Santosh Hegde had elevated the faith of people on the anti-corruption watchdog. They brought grace to the institution by taking tough actions against corrupt officials and elected representatives, but Justice Rao has disgraced the office by allowing corruption. The corruption scandals are only defaming the office, the release said.
