Krupa Alva, Karnataka Child Rights Protection Commission president, has set a deadline of July 31, to form alumni associations in each government schools in Belagavi district.
She asked officials to organise old students and connect them with their schools. “Send me a report when you have completed that task,” she said at a meeting of officials at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Monday.
Belagavi has the highest number of children in government schools in the State. “We could use some help from philanthropic alumni in developing these schools,” she said.
She urged officials to stop child marriages through counselling and timely intervention. Belagavi has a high rate of child marriages. All should work together to reduce this, she said. She asked officials to act against autorickshaw and van drivers who carried more than the stipulated number of children in school autorickshaws and vans.
She said that the government had constituted a committee headed by judge Gopal Gowda to suggest a system to regulate fees in private schools.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer R. Ramachandran and other officials were present.
