Scores of journalists took out a protest march in Hubballi on Thursday condemning the attack on the camerman of a news channel by a district health officer in Chikkamagaluru on Wednesday.

Under the aegis of Dharwad District Union of Working Journalists (DDUWJ), electronic and media journalists, photographers and cameramen took out the march from ‘Patrakartara Bhavana’ on Lamington Road to Mini Vidhanasoudha, where the office of the Tahsildar is located.

Raising slogans they condemned the attack on cameramen Bharath of Praja TV by District Surgeon of Chikkamagalur Dr. Doddamallappa. The surgeon reportedly attacked Mr. Bharath when he had gone to shoot alleged irregularities in the hospital.

Journalists Sangamesh Menasinakai, Jagadish Burlabuddi, Parashuram, President of DDUWJ Gangapati Gangolli, State Secretary of KUWJ Lochanesh Hugar and others sought action against the district surgeon immediately and suitable compensation to the cameraman.

Mr. Gangolli and others submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking action against the district surgeon and protection to journalists.

On the occasion, another memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister seeking withdrawal of the imposition of GST on the media, was also submitted to the taluk officials.
