The police have arrested five persons in connection with the theft of a jewellery shop on May 13.

The police on Thursday identified the accused as Munirsab, Maheboob, Shivasharana Siddu, and Sadashiva.

The police had earlier arrested an alleged assailant Rajesh Rathod on the day of the incident with the help of the public, who caught him when he allegedly tried to escape by firing in the air with a country-made pistol.

A gang of six members allegedly stabbed Raghavendra Pattar, owner of Sri Kalika jewellery shop, and his helper, Vishwanath, on May 13 and fled with gold ornaments.

The police has seized one country-made pistol and a knife, and recovered Rs. 11,000 in cash from Rajesh Rathod.

“Based on the information by the shop owner and the arrested and the CCTV camera footage, the police identified the miscreants and arrested all involved in the case,” said Superintendent of Police Vinayaka Patil.
