Minister for Food and Civil Supplies D.N. Jeevraj has ordered an inquiry into complaints of multiplexes charging exorbitant rates for eatables and water sold on their premises.
This followed a complaint submitted by MLAs and members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that the prices of food items in multiplexes were unreasonably high.
Submit report
Mr. Jeevraj told The Hindu that Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies Department, and Controller, Legal Metrology, had been asked to submit a report within a week.
The BJP in its memorandum had said: “There are more than 14 multiplexes in the city now, where people are not allowed to take food from outside or even water. This compels people to buy eatables inside, even when they are priced too high.”
Control prices
They had demanded that the government take measures to control the prices, describing it as a “daylight robbery”.
