The Janata Dal (Secular) has decided to field Geetha Shivarajkumar, wife of actor Shivarajkumar and daughter of late S. Bangarappa, from the Shimoga parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to The Hindu, Janata Dal(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy said that the party’s youth wing president Madhu Bangarappa had offered to request one of his family members to contest from Shimoga represented by his father four times. “The Janata Dal(S) has decided to field Ms. Geetha Shivarajkumar, if her family agrees to the proposal,” he said.

Considering the response it received in the Assembly elections, the party has great chances of winning the seat. The Janata Dal(S) won Shimoga Rural, Bhadravati and Sorab Assembly constituencies.

Spiking rumours that Janata Dal(S) national president H.D. Deve Gowda may contest from Bangalore Rural constituency, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that Mr. Deve Gowda had an emotional attachment to Hassan Lok Sabha constituency and there was no question of him changing his constituency.

“In Bangalore Rural,” he said, “the party has zeroed in on a potential winning candidate from that constituency.”

Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the list of party candidates for all 28 Lok Sabha seats had been finalised. “The final announcement will be made next week after placing the list before the party’s parliamentary board,” he said.

Though the party would field candidates in all the constituencies, the focus would be on 13 seats, where the party’s winning chances are bright. These constituencies are Kolar, Chickballapur, Tumkur, Bangalore Rural, Mandya, Mysore, Hassan, Shimoga, Raichur, Bidar, Bijapur, Chitradurga and North Canara.
