The Janata Dal (Secular) is open to an alliance with Left parties in the Assembly elections, said national party president H.D. Deve Gowda here on Monday. The party will contest from all 224 constituencies, he said.

Mr. Gowda told mediapersons that the party had taken no decision on having an alliance with the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

Asked whether his party would support the Congress in case of hung Assembly, he said: “I have burnt my fingers by supporting the Congress (earlier in 2004).” Mr. Gowda said that H.D. Kumaraswamy, president, State unit, was repenting now for joining hands with the BJP in 2006.

Mr. Gowda said the party would make all efforts to win at least one seat in all districts to ensure that it has representation in the Assembly from all districts. The candidates would be finalised by the end of February, he said.
