A documentary film being produced by the Janata Dal (Secular) on the Cauvery and Krishna issues to “create awareness” among the people on the injustice meted out to Karnataka by the Centre has attracted the wrath of Congress, and the Mandya district Congress has complained about it to Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha.
Though JD (S) supremo and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda clarified that the film is not part of the election campaign, the Congress is not buying the argument.
JD (S) State president H.D. Kumaraswamy had said that the Cauvery and Krishna issues would be a major poll plank of the party in the elections.
Two episodes
Besides the social media, the party has planned to exploit the issues by screening two episodes of the documentary film of 30 minutes each on the Cauvery and Krishna.
It was an attempt to explain to the electorate how the Congress and BJP sacrificed the interests of the people in the two river basins when they were in power at the Centre, said a senior party leader.
Film director Nagatihalli Chandrashekar, who bagged national awards for three of his films, is directing the documentary film.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Chandrashekar said the film would focus on Mr. Gowda’s struggle to protect the interests of the people in the Cauvery and Krishna basins and highlight his works during his tenure as Minister for Irrigation, Chief Minister of Karnataka, and Prime Minister.
Film’s completion
Shooting of the film would be completed by mid-April and the title would be finalised by next week.
Mr. Chandrashekar pointed out that he had written a song for the film, and V. Manohar had composed music for it.
The former Prime Minister narrates the history of the Cauvery and Krishna from the pre-Independence days till date.
