The former MLA and Janata Dal (Secular) leader M. Srinivas on Sunday submitted his reply to a show-cause notice issued to him by Mandya Deputy Commissioner B.N. Krishnaiah for his alleged “inflammatory and sexist remarks” against actor-turned-politician Ramya (Divya Spandana) at Srirangapatna.
Mr. Srinivas on Friday is said to have questioned the parentage of Congress leader Ramya, who is contesting the August 21 by-elections from the Mandya Lok Sabha segment, following which Mr. Krishnaiah issued the show-cause under the Representation of the People Act on Saturday asking the Janata Dal(S) leader to reply within 24 hours.
Mr. Krishnaiah told The Hindu that the reply reached his office. He, however, said that he was yet to look at Mr. Srinivas’s reply.
Report
Srirangapatna in-charge Tahsildar Suresh, in his report to the Deputy Commissioner on Saturday, said that Mr. Srinivas had indulged in “corrupt practices” during his election campaign in Srirangapatna and had also questioned Ramya’s parentage.
The tahsildar also reported that the Janata Dal(S) leader had used “inflammatory words and foul language” while “personally attacking” the young Congress leader.
‘Not intentional’
Meanwhile, Mr. Srinivas tendered his apology to Ms. Ramya.
Mr. Srinivas told The Hindu that he had no intention to hurt Ms. Ramya. He said that his remarks were based on reports that had appeared in a few newspapers.
“I apologise to Ms. Ramya for my comments,” Mr. Srinivas said.
