JD(S) dilemma ends in Kolar

April 23, 2018 04:34 pm | Updated 04:34 pm IST - Kolar

The dilemma in Janata Dal (Secular) over the candidature of the party ended on Monday with former Agriculture Minister K. Srinivas Gowda filing nomination papers from Kolar constituency.

Though the party issued B form to Vakkaleri on Friday, it changed the decision on Sunday night and gave it to Mr. Gowda.

In fact, Mr. Gowda was angry with the JD(S) as his name did not feature in first list of party candidates; and he tried to get the Congress ticket. However, as the Congress chose Syed Jameer Pasha as its nominee for the seat, Mr. Gowda had no option but to remain with JD(S). At one point of time, he declared that he will contest as an Independent if JD(S) refuses the ticket. Finally he got it.

In Bangarpet (SC Reserved) constituency, the JD(S) decided to change its candidate. It preferred former MLA M. Narayanaswamy, who changed his loyalty only a few days ago as he was not given the BJP ticket, over Malleshbabu.

Even before the JD(S) announced its decision to make Mr. Narayanaswamy its candidate, the latter filed his papers both as an Independent and as JD(S) candidate, hoping for the B form from JD(S).
