Karnataka Janata Paksha president B.S. Yeddyurappa on Friday alleged that the Opposition Janata Dal (Secular) was clandestinely supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), because of which the government was able to sustain till now.

Addressing presspersons at the formal launch of the party’s youth wing here, Mr. Yeddyurappa said: “If there is an understanding between the two parties, let them announce it openly. We have no problem. Why should they fool people?”

Coming down heavily on the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, the former Chief Minister said: “The understanding between them is to have an alliance in the coming Assembly elections.”

On the Cauvery issue, Mr. Yeddyurappa alleged that Mr. Gowda had a dual stance regarding this controversial issue and was “fooling” people. “On the one hand Mr. Gowda asks the Jagadish Shettar government to implement the Supreme Court order regarding the release of Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu and on the other he himself launches a padayatra against release of water. He should explain this dual stance,” he said.

Terming the recently presented budget as an “election manifesto” of the BJP government, Mr. Yeddyurappa said: “The budget presentation is futile exercise as it cannot be implemented now. This is because the model code of conduct for urban local bodies elections comes into effect immediately. These elections will be followed by Assembly elections,” he said.

He said his party was preparing to contest in the urban local body polls and a series of party meetings had been lined up from February 16 to 21.

He announced the list of office-bearers of the party’s youth wing.
