The former MLA S. Jayaprakash Shetty passed away after a brief illness, at a private hospital in Manipal on Monday. He was 81.
Jayaprakash Shetty had won as an Independent candidate from the erstwhile Brahmavar Assembly Constituency in 1967. After serving one term as MLA, he bowed out of politics, but remained active in social work. He fought for the implementation of the Varahi Irrigation Project and repair work of National Highway 66 in the district.
Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLCs Pratapchandra Shetty and Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, the former Minister K. Jayaprakash Hegde, KPCC Secretary M.A. Gafoor have mourned his death.
