The Special Court trying the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday rejected the plea of newly appointed Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) for adjouring proceedings by two months to enable him study the case.

Mr. G. Bhavani Singh, who assumed the post of SPP on Saturday, during his first appearence before the Special Court, sought two months time to acquint himself with the prosecution materials.

However, M.S. Balakrishna, Judge of the Special Court and 36th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, granted only two weeks time to Mr. Singh.

The judge told Mr. Singh that he could get the assistance of advocate Mr. Sandeep J Chouta, who has been assisting the earlier SPP since the case was transferred to Bangalore in 2003-04 following an order of the Supreme Court, for studying the case at the earliest.

Further proceeding has been adjourned to Feb 18.
