Jarkiholi resignation: Team from Belagavi to meet CM today evening

The ongoing political imbroglio within the ruling Congress arising out of the resignation of Excise Minister Satish L. Jarkiholi stood extended by at least one more day, given that the disgruntled politician from Gokak staying back at home and not meeting the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday.

However, he is expected to meet the Chief Minister on Friday based on the outcome of meeting between the troubleshooting team from Belagavi consisting of sitting and former legislators and senior leaders and Mr. Siddaramaiah, scheduled to be held after the cabinet meeting at Bengaluru today evening.

After over three hours of confabulations between him and party legislators and leaders at the residence of Feroz N. Sait, MLA here on Wednesday, senior leader Prakash B. Hukkeri, MP (Chikodi) had said that the issue was resolved and Mr. Jarkiholi agreed to meet the Chief Minister to sort out differences. The differences were on need for more funds for expeditious development of the district and not personal. While his elder brother, Ramesh L. Jarkiholi, MLA (Gokak) had said that Satish was a sensitive person and took the decision to resign in hurry. However, he would withdraw his resignation and continue in the Siddaramaiah government.

Subsequently, the media was told that senior party leaders along with Mr. Jarkiholi would meet the Chief Minister on Thursday and sort out the issues.

While Mr. Jarkiholi remained inaccessible, even to his own personal staff during the day. Team member district Congress president Laxmi R. Hebbalkar told The Hindu from Bengaluru that efforts were being made to resolve the issue of change of Mr. Jarkiholi’s portfolio. To a question, quoting Mr. Jarkiholi, she said the former was happy with the decision of the government to accord “ST” tag to the Golla community as it would widen the base of ST population in the state.

While another senior leader in the team said there was no issue at all but some communication gap, which we were trying to bridge in the interest of the party and its government. Mr. Jarkiholi and Mr. Siddaramaiah were long-time close friends and the latter extend his best support when Mr. Siddaramaiah was struggling to make a come back to power politics in the state. Hopefully, the matter would be resolved soon, he said.
