Janaspandana, a public grievances meeting, failed to attract petitioners on Saturday owing to lack of proper publicity.
The Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) had organised the programme at Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kala Mandir. However, less than 130 persons attended.
Deputy Commissioner M.N. Ajay Nagabhushan inaugurated the programme, and asked citizens to make use of such programmes to solve their problems and seek civic amenities. According to the attendants, the CMC had failed to publicise the programme through pamphlets and public announcements.
Around 20 persons submitted petitions to the CMC. While some residents demanded proper water supply, a few urged action against errant autorickshaw drivers. Residents of Gandhi Nagar urged Mr. Nagabhushan to cancel the licences of three liquor shops and bars in the area. A person submitted a memorandum seeking the development of a vegetable market in the town, while another demanded bus services to the areas on the outskirts of Mandya town. “We have received petitions regarding civic amenities and will take suitable measures,” T.N. Narasimha Murthy, Commissioner, CMC, told The Hindu . CMC president H.C. Bore Gowda, vice-president Sujatha Mani, and standing committee president Shivaprakashbabu were present.
