Janapada Sambrama, a two-day folklore festival, will be held in Bidar on November 29 and 30. It is being organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture and Karnataka Janapada Academy.

Addressing the media at the district auditorium on Tuesday, chairman of Karnataka Janapada Academy B. Takappa said over 500 artistes from acrossthe State will participate in a rally planned on the first day . The procession will be flagged off by president of the City Municipal Council in B.R. Ambedkar Circle at 10.30 a.m. and pass through Bhagat Singh Circle, Basaveshwara Circle, Shivaji Circle, and the DC’s office to reach the district auditorium where a stage performance will be inaugurated by Eshwara Bhimanna, Minister of State for Municipalities and Local Bodies and Bidar In-charge.

“There are abundant cultural activists in Bidar district. They are unable to come to foreground as they are largely deprived of opportunities and encouragement to showcase their talents. In this view, we have decided to give priority to local artistes in the festival,” Mr. Takappa said.

He said the academy had submitted a proposal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to increase the monthly pension of artistes from ₹1,500 to ₹2,000.

“The CM has responded positively. We hope that it will materialise. We have also proposed to decrease the age cap to 50 years for artistes to avail the monthly pension,” he said.

Janapada Academy member Vijaykumar Sonare said 35 local cultural troupes have been identified for participating in the folklore fest.
