The Bhoomi Mattu Vasati Hakku Vanchitara Horatara Samiti, which called off its indefinite satyagraha led by freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy on Tuesday evening following assurances from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagdish Shettar that their demands of granting ownership rights to the cultivators of forest lands and housing for the homeless would be take up for debate during the current winter session itself, has cautioned the government against indulging in “eyewash.”
The agitation was withdrawn following assurances from Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Shettar, said Samiti’s spokesman Sirimane Nagaraj in a release here on Thursday.
‘Concrete decisions’
Mere discussions on the issues were not enough, he said, adding that concrete decisions on the long pending demands of the people were needed.
“The government should take bold decisions and announce the same before the end of the winter session ... else their assurances would be viewed as eyewash. In such a case, the Samti would be forced to launch a fresh agitation across the State,” he added.
