The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, who are in Haryana for the party national executive council meeting, could not arrive at a decision on the appointment of the new State unit president on Friday as the process of appointment has become complex.
According to sources, the party decided to hold some more rounds of consultations both in Delhi as well as Bangalore before making the final choice. Accordingly, party national general secretary Arun Jaitley would now come to Bangalore on October 2 to hold further consultations in this regard.
“Mr. Jaitley is coming to Bangalore for some other work. However, as the party central leadership wanted to hold consultations on the appointment of State unit president, it has now been decided to use this occasion,” sources said.
“As of now, we are trying to make a choice between Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi and Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel,” sources said.
The process of appointment of new president has become complex for various reasons, including the one related to bringing about a balance between political representation to various regions and communities ahead of the Assembly elections. Besides, the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has rebelled against the party after realising that the party is not considering him for the top post.
The prevailing groupism in the party has made the process of appointment further complicated as the party has to ensure that the appointment of new chief does not add to the list of problems already being faced by it.
The party has taken up the process of appointing new State chief as the incumbent, Mr. K. S. Eshwarappa has joined the ministry, and the party norms bar a person from holding two prominent posts.
