Braving sweltering heatwave conditions, people came in droves to Nutan Vidyalaya Grounds here to listen to AICC president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday.
The only solace for the crowd was that Ms. Gandhi came down after her speech and walked to the people waiting outside the “D-Zone” and greeted them.
The severe heat wave conditions in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region for the past few days is proving to be a major hurdle for campaign managers and they are campaign from early morning till 11 a.m. and resume after 5 p.m.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) the entire Hyderabad Karnataka Region is under the continuous spell of heat wave conditions with the temperatures crossing 42 degrees Celsius in most places.
As per the summary of recordings made at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday, Gulbarga recorded the State’s highest maximum temperature of 42.1 degrees Celsius followed by Raichur and Bellary recording 42 degrees Celsius each and Koppal recording 41 degrees Celsius. Gulbarga also recorded the States highest minimum temperature of 28 degree Celsius.
The IMD officials predicted that the extreme heat wave conditions would continue for few more days and it would be hovering around 42 degree’s Celsius on May 3 and 4 and 41 degrees on May 5, the day of the polls.
