As many as 80 kite flyers belonging to five international and 21 national kite flying teams will take part in the fourth edition of the Belgaum International Kite Festival (BIKF) commencing on Angadi Institute of Technology and Management (AITM) premises here from January 18.
Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Parivartan Pariwar chief Abhay Patil said that kite flying for children, youth, women and families were scheduled, along with kite flying competitions.
International kite flying teams from Belgium, Russia, South Africa, Malaysia and Singapore have confirmed their participation. Many of the 21 national teams participating have made their presence felt at international kite festivals. Sandesh Kaddi and team from Belgaum are one of them.
As part of the festival, a ‘night’ kite flying event will be held on January 18, and an aero-modelling and firecracker show on January 21. The festival’s popularity has been increasing annually, and this year over four lakh people are expected to witness it.
More than 200 stalls have been made available in the trade fair that would present food varieties, handloom and handicrafts, among others. The Police Department would also put up two stalls to create traffic and law awareness.
An ‘education zone’ would guide parents and students on the courses available after schooling and PU.
A kite festival for children will be held on January 20. More than 10,000 kites would be made available for children. Kite flying for women and families has been organised along with kite flying competitions on January 21, Mr. Patil added.
Students of more than 40 colleges in the State, as well as from Maharashtra and Goa, will participate in ‘Umang-2014’, the multi-State youth festival to be staged at the kite festival venue, along with kite flying events on January 20 and 21. Umang will provide a platform for the youth to expose their talents in classical singing, dance, group dance, elocution and others.
Indoor events would be organised on the AITM premises, while outdoor activities would be on the stage installed at the kite festival venue, he said.
