International children’s film festival begins in Mandya

Fifteen films will be screened in three cinema halls

The first edition of Karnataka International Children’s Film Festival – 2014 commenced here on Friday with the screening of Taina — The Original at Mahaveer and Cinderella Moon at Sanjay and Girija cinema halls.

The seven-day festival was inaugurated by child artist Baby Imphana, Additional Deputy Commissioner B.R. Poornima and Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase at Mahaveer cinema hall on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.

In her inaugural speech, Ms. Poornima said that the district administration had organised the film festival in association with the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, departments of Information and Public Relations, Public Instructions and Women and Child Welfare.

Deputy Director for Public Instruction M.D. Shivakumar, Deputy Director for Women and Child Welfare Diwakar, Information Officer R. Raju, Mandya tahsildar V. Priyadarshini, Block Education Officer Mahadeva, Assistant Director of Sports H.P. Manjula and others were present. Hundreds of children from different schools participated in the inaugural function and watched the films at Mahaveer, Sanjay and Girija cinema halls.

In all, 15 films made by noted directors from Brazil, Czech Republic, Iran, Switzerland, Greenland, Hungary, India and other countries will be screened during the festival at the designated cinema halls, a release issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations said.

The film festival is exclusively for children and movies would be screened for free during the film festival. The films would be screened daily at 8.30 a.m.
