Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries Murugesh Nirani has assured a delegation of Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) that the government will ensure 24-hour electricity supply for industrial establishments in Karnataka from September 1.

The delegation, headed by BCCI president Shreenath Deshpande along with honorary secretary Basavraj Javali and other members, on Monday, met the Minister and apprised him of the difficulties being faced by industrial units in the district owing to scheduled and unscheduled power cuts, according to a BCCI release here on Wednesday.

Responding to various demands of the BCCI, the Minister said the government had initiated the process of acquiring land for further development of industrial sector in Belgaum.

The Minister indicated that the government was likely to implement its new industrial policy once the official formalities were over, by August 22.

The government was trying to attract investors to establish major industries in Belgaum. The discussion with J.K. Tyres was in progress and the government had offered an attractive package to start its unit in Belgaum.

On the demand for improvement of infrastructure-related problems in industrial areas in the city, the Minister said the Joint Director of District Industries and Commerce had been asked to prepare a budgetary report to take up one-time development works.
