With 70 per cent of work already completed, the indoor swimming pools in Chitradurga and Hosadurga taluks will be inaugurated on June 25.
The first of their kind in any taluk, the pools, which were built at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore each, will also have facilities such a fitness centre and steam and sauna facilities.
“In a couple of days, work on roofing will start. Since the curing is almost over, tiles will also be laid soon,” Mohammad Mohibullah, Assistant Director, District Sports and Youth Services Department, said.
He said that since the completion date was nearing, the Chitradurga Stadium Committee had already invited applications for the posts of swimming coach and male and female lifeguards.
Mr. Mohibullah said that the non-refundable lifetime membership fee had been fixed at Rs. 1,000, while monthly membership would be Rs. 500. For students between the age five and 17, the monthly fee would be Rs. 200. Non-members would be charged Rs. 25 an hour, he said.
Though the committee had decided to introduce the same fee structure for both swimming pools, the fee maybe slightly different for the Hosadurga pool depending on Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Gulihatti D. Shekhar's recommendations.
With regard to other facilities such as the sports hostel, auditorium, basketball and volleyball courts, lawn tennis court and synthetic track, Mr. Mohibullah said that all the projects were under various stages of completion and would also be completed by June-end.
“Since work on the sports hostel is in the final stage, the department has fixed June 25 as the tentative date for the inauguration.
Meanwhile, the auditorium, which is being built at a cost Rs. 59 lakh, will possibly be thrown open to the public on June 15,” he said. The auditorium will also have giant screens for the benefit of spectators.
