Anupama Shenoy, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), Kudligi Sub-Division, today declared that there was no question of withdrawing her resignation. She also distanced herself from the controversial and defamatory posts in her Facebook account with a comment “They are not my posts”.

Ms. Shenoy, who was incommunicado but active on social media after she tendered her resignation on May 5, surfaced in Kudligi in Ballari district on Thursday morning. She made a dramatic exit at around 2.30 p.m. amidst dharna and slogan shouting by various social and pro-Kannada organisations urging her to withdraw her resignation.

Repeated attempts made by R.S. Patil, DySP Hadagali, who has been made in-charge of Kudligi sub-division, to meet her failed with Ms. Shenoy not responding to his call in person at her designated residential quarters and she did not even open the doors.

A large number of people of Kudligi town had gathered to witness the developments where representatives of various social organisations staged a dharna in front her residence, shouting slogans against the government and against Parameshwar Naik, Labour Minister. Prior to that the representatives of various organisations blocked NH 50 for some time to mount pressure on Ms. Shenoy to withdraw her resignation and also on the State government not to accept her resignation and let her continue in the same post.

Media representatives, both print and electronic, were present in large number with a few TV channels covering the developments live.

Ms. Shenoy, accompanied by her brother and sister, collected her personal files and had to be escorted by the police to board the car which was surrounded by people. She then left with a police escort towards Bhatkal.

'Going home'

'“I had come here to take my luggage and I am going to my home in Bhatkal”, Ms. Anupama Shenoy said in a brief chat with presspersons. A pale-looking Ms. Shenoy also made it clear that she was firm on her decision (tendering resignation). “For personal reasons I had tendered my resignation. But my resignation is being used by ‘all’ to pursue their vested interests and I want to launch a legal battle seeking justice”, she said adding that she would consult legal experts in this regard.

Ms. Shenoy, to a question, said that she had not posted any comments on Facebook and the posts that had appeared were not hers. “Ask and interview those who have posted”, she said. When a reporter sought to know whether she would lodge a complaint that her Facebook account was hacked she said “Do you think that one would get justice for the complaints made with our department?”. “It is for you to judge”, she said when presspersons sought to know whether there was no justice in the Police Department.

To another question on releasing the CD, a visibly upset Ms. Shenoy shot back “why are you all asking the same question every time?. It will be released at an appropriate time”.

“No comments” was her reply when asked whether she would be meeting the senior officials of the department, including Ballari Superintendent of Police R. Chetan.
