The income limit to exclude the creamy layer among the backward classes for reservation will be enhanced from the existing Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 4.5 lakh per annum.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s proposal in the budget on Friday was welcomed by sections of the backward classes which had been clamouring for an enhancement in the ceiling on account of the increase in salaries and wages in the last couple of years.

An enhancement in the ceiling on income is expected to help those from the 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B category avail themselves of reservation in employment and education.

A maximum education loan of Rs. 1 lakh at an annual interest rate of 2 per cent will be provided under the “Arivu-Education Loan” scheme to BCs students .
