Minister of State for Kannada and Culture and Women and Child Development Umashree on Saturday emphasised the need for effective implementation of the Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

Presiding over a review meeting of her department here on Saturday to assess the progress of various schemes in the Mysuru division, she instructed the officials concerned in several districts to ensure effective implementation of the Act to provide proper protection to women.

While Ms. Umashree instructed a few officials to create awareness among the public about the Domestic Violence Act, she directed a few others to use the services of self-help groups (SHGs) in popularising the State-sponsored projects designed for the uplift of women.
