‘I’m thankful to my ancestors and promise to keep up the legacy’

May 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - MYSURU:

Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Monday announced that he will stay in Mysuru till the upcoming Dasara to comply with the royal family’s Navarathri customs and thereafter go abroad for higher education.

“I have plans to take up higher studies overseas. Though I have not made up my mind, I’ll stay back in Mysuru till Dasara,” he told a large contingent of presspersons.

Mr. Yaduveer recently returned after his graduation from Boston, U.S.

Expressing joy over taking over the reigns of the dynasty, he said, “I am pleased. I’m thankful to my ancestors and promise to keep up the legacy besides making my contributions appropriately.”

On the task of carrying forward the family’s business interests and safeguarding the inherited property, he said, “I’ll sit with my mother (Pramoda Devi Wadiyar) and decide what needs to be done. It’s a new chapter of my life.”

On late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar’s plans of starting a university in Mysuru, he said, “I am aware of my father’s dream. I will have to give a thought on his unfulfilled vision and decide what could be done.”

When asked if he would fill the gap created by the demise of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar and help promote tourism, Mr. Yaduveer said, “I have much to learn and understand on how to build the brand left by my father by capitalising on his contributions.”
