Activists of Karnatka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) and Hasiru Sene staged a sit-in protest outside office of Mines and Geology Department in the town on Friday.
The protesters have been demanding action against those engaged in illegal stone-quarrying and granite-trading in several parts of the district looting the natural resources. The protesters urged the authorities to take suitable measures to protect the natural resources.
In order to decry the failure of officials to control the illegal activities, the organisers offered to pay ‘bribe’ in public to the officers as a token of protest causing embarrassment to the officials.
In a memorandum, the outfits sought criminal cases against the officials who are supporting the quarrying and against the quarry owners.
KRRS district convener K. Srinivasa Gowda, Umadevi, Amaranarayanaswamy and others participated.
