The Principal Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called off its proposed State-wide stir seeking a CBI probe into the illegal lottery racket.

At a press conference in Bengaluru, BJP State President Pralhad Joshi had said the Party’s highest decision making body of the State core committee would meet soon after the conclusion of the village panchayat polls on May 29 to decide the nature of the campaign to be taken up by it to take the inquiry into lottery racket to the logical end.

Alleging that more than 100 police officials including 25 to 30 IPS officers were believed to be involved in the illegal lottery racket, Mr. Joshi maintained that it was not possible for the sleuths of the Criminal Investigation Department, which is presently probing the issue, to properly interrogate these senior officers.

Also the inter-state nature of the multi-state scam required a national agency like the CBI to deal with the matter, he said.
