The cancelling of the rescheduled II PU chemistry examination following a paper leak saw scores of students take to the streets and staging demonstrations outside the office of Deputy Director of Pre University Education (DDPUE) and various examination centres, in Mysuru on Thursday.

The examination, originally scheduled for March 21, had been cancelled and rescheduled for March 31 after the PU Board found that the paper had been leaked.

The students protest the repeated leaks of the question paper and said it caused them major inconvenience. They staged a demonstration outside Maharani’s college and were supported by ABVP, while protests outside the DC’s office were led by the All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO).

Safina, a student of Devaraja PU College, said the question paper leak had come as a rude shock to all those who worked hard and prepared for the examination diligently. “This is happening for the second time and the most of us go through much trauma. We have to prepare for other competitive examinations too,” she said.

AIDSO activist Umadevi, who was leading the protest, said she saw parents who were in tears as they feared for the future of their children. “Most parents spend thousands of rupees on tuitions and in preparing their children for entrance examination for professional colleges, and such incidents upset their plans,” she said.

Former Minister S.A. Ramdas said there should be no re-examination, but only evaluation of the chemistry exam students attempted on March 21.
