Janata Dal (Secular) national president H.D. Deve Gowda on Friday said he “would not get into the black money row now” as he felt the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre needed more time to bring back black money stashed abroad.

Mr. Gowda told presspersons here that although the government was making efforts to keep its election manifesto promise, it was not easy as there were many legal issues. He quickly added, “But this does not mean I am supporting the BJP government or softening my stand. As a former Prime Minister, I am aware of the international rules. I will make my stand clear during the Budget session [of Parliament],” he said.

Urging the government to concentrate on recovering black money being circulated in the country, Mr. Gowda said, “Although political parties make several promises in their election manifestos, they will take time to implement them.” Bringing black money back into the country involves amending laws, subject to the acceptance of international communities, he said.

Curative petition

Regarding vacating the property housing the JD(S) office on Racecourse Road here by the year-end, he said the party would file a curative petition in the Supreme Court. The apex court has ruled that the building belongs to the Congress.
