The Karnataka Government has expressed “strong protest” against the use of central forces while conducting Income Tax search and seizure operations at the premises linked to Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar and his associates.

Additional Chief Secretary to Home Department Subhash Chandra has said in a letter addressed to Hasmukh Adhia, Secretary, Department of Revenue, GoI, that it is against the “established conventions of co-operative action between agencies of central and State government” to have used central forces and kept the State police in the dark about the operations.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had, on Wednesday, expressed opposition to use of CRPF personnel in search operations and called it “politically motivated.”

In the letter, Mr. Chandra said that the IT officials had not sought assistance of State police even though law and order is a State subject.
