The former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda has alleged that he had to step down from the Chief Minister’s post because of the conspiracy hatched by the former Minister C.M. Udasi, who is now in the Karnataka Janata Paksha.

Speaking to presspersons before participating in the district convention of BJP workers organised as part of the ‘Vijay Sankalp Yatra’ in Haveri on Sunday, Mr. Gowda said his efforts to check corruption in the Public Works Department cost him the Chief Minister’s post.

Mr. Gowda said that as Chief Minister, he took steps to check corruption in the Public Works Department, the portfolio of which was with Mr. Udasi. “In order to check corruption, I transferred some officers who were involved in large-scale corruption. Mr. Udasi who didn’t tolerate it took the lead of the team which was trying to dislodge me and conspired against me,” he alleged.

He alleged that Mr. Udasi who got elected from BJP had the responsibility of running the biggest department and indulged in large-scale corruption in the first three years of BJP rule. “It will not be exaggeration if I say the PWD surpassed all other departments in corruption”, he said.

To a query, Mr. Gowda mocked at those leaders who said that some more leaders would join the KJP soon. He said that many of the KJP leaders would be walking out of KJP in the coming days.
