Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts gather in twin cities

Hundreds of people belonging to different age groups, from senior citizens to schoolchildren, gathered at different venues in the twin cities of Hubballi Dharwad to celebrate the International Yoga Day on Thursday.

Apart from the district administration and taluk administration organising programmes to mark the Yoga Day, different organisations and yoga enthusiasts organised mass yogasana performance to mark the day.

Playgrounds, marriage halls, school and college auditoriums and open spaces were all filled with yoga enthusiasts who performed various yogasanas apart from Surya Namaskar under the guidance of yoga instructors. Several organisations also distributed T-shirts to yoga enthusiasts participating in the Yoga Day event and there were talks on the significance of Yoga by experts.

At the programme organised by Dharwad District Administration in association with different government departments and various organisations at the R.N. Shetty Stadium, Kalghatgi MLA C.M. Nimbannavar described Yoga as one of the tools for a healthy nation and appealed to the people to make Yoga a part of their daily life. Along with Mr. Nimbannavar, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad S.B. Bommannahalli and several officials and elected representatives performed yogasanas.

At Srinivas Garden in Hubballi, Sri Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swami inaugurated the Yoga Day programme organised jointly by Kshamata Samsthe and Dhanyosmi Yoga Centre.

Many, including Member of Parliament Pralhad Joshi, took part in the programme and performed asanas. RSS Pracharak Su. Ramanna delivered a talk on the role of Yoga in maintaining good health.

Similarly at the Indira Glass House, where hundreds gathered for morning walk, there was mass performance of yogasanas by yoga enthusiasts.

At various residential complexes in the twin cities, Yoga Day was celebrated by enthusiasts and those who could not venture out also became part of the Yoga Day celebrations by performing various asanas at their houses and posting photographs on their social media accounts. Talks on the significance of Yoga were also held at various venues.

In Dharwad, Shivakumar Hosakoti performed Jal Yoga at the HDMC swimming pool in Dharwad. Keeping himself afloat on water, Shivakumar performed various asanas, as the crowd cheered him. Similar events were organised by the district administrations in Gadag, Haveri and Uttar Kannada districts.
