Railway passengers from Hubballi who had to shell out Rs. 15 per litre for a bottle of packaged drinking water while travelling by trains, can now get purified drinking water at Rs. 5 per litre at Hubballi railway station.
The initiative of setting up water vending machines has been taken by Hubballi Division of South Western Railway in collaboration of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Eureka Forbes.
Now, with the installation of these machines, passengers can buy potable water in quantities of 300 ml, 500 ml, 1 litre, 2 litre, and 5 litre. They also have the option to choose either cold or warm water and can get refill either using their own container or buy one from the operator.
Inaugurating the four water vending machines set up at Hubballi Railway Station recently, Divisional Railway Manager of Hubballi Division of South Western Railway Arun Kumar Jain said that the facility would be soon extended to Dharwad, Gadag, Hosapete, Ballari, Vijayapura, Vasco-Da-Gama, Belagavi, and Londa railway stations.
