If everything goes as planned, aircraft services between Hubballi and Mumbai will resume by next month.
MP, Pralhad Joshi, told presspersons here on Sunday that Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials have agreed to provide a slot at the Mumbai airport for landing aircraft arriving from the Hubballi airport.
At a meeting recently, AAI officials agreed to provide a slot for three days a week and also promised considering increasing it in the future.
Besides, Air India authorities too have agreed to start services from Hubballi to Mumbai, he said.
Private aviation companies too have been consulted and one of them has expressed interest to fly services from Hubballi, Mr. Joshi said.
Private players have been asked to consider providing aircraft services to other major cities, including Hyderabad and Chennai, from Hubballi, he said.
About the delayed inauguration of the airport here, Mr. Joshi said that efforts are under way to have Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurate the new airport terminal and other major infrastructure development works.
However, the inauguration ceremony will be held any day after December 18, he added.
