Elections to the posts of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Hubballi-Dharwad have been scheduled on March 3.
Regional Commissioner P.A. Meghannavar has issued a notification to hold the elections to these posts. The State government has issued a notification reserving the Mayor’s seat for general category and the Deputy Mayor’s post for Backward Classes.
Senior councillor Sudhir Saraf is said to be the front runner for the Mayor’s post.
However, BJP councillors Ramanna Badiger, Mahesh Burli, Mallikarjun Horakeri, Shivu Menasinkai, Adharsh Uppin and Shivanand Muttannavar are the other contenders. Councillor Balaram Kusugal, Vijayand Shetty, Bheerappa Khandekar, Narayan Jhartarghar and Sanjay Kapatkar are said to be the key aspirants for the Deputy Mayor post.
Meanwhile, the BJP district core committee meeting will be held on February 28 to decide the party candidates for the posts of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. A meeting of councillors would be held on February 27 to elicit their suggestions, which would be taken into consideration while finalising eligible the candidates.
