Human Resource Development Ministry has sought an explanation from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) about the allegation that National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) papers in some regional language were different and more difficult compared to the Hindi and English papers.
HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, speaking on the sidelines of the Southern Regional workshop on innovations and best practices in school education organised by his ministry on Saturday, said that the board would soon issue a clarification on this matter.
Several students, including those who took the test in Kannada medium, had complained that their papers were more difficult compared to than the English and Hindi papers. The exam was conducted on May 7 in Hindi, English and eight regional languages for medical and dental seat aspirants. Students had objected to different papers being set by the CBSE and had pointed out that it was not a “level playing” field.
NEET dress code controversy
On the controversy around the dress code, particularly that of a girl in Kannur who alleged that she was made to remove her innerwear, Mr. Javadekar said: “We had to issue a strict dress code as malpractices have been reported in the past. Out of 11 lakh students who took the exam, one girl pointed out a concern. It was an unfortunate incident and four teachers have been suspended after this incident.”
