Hooch tragedy claims 5 lives in Karnataka

Five persons have died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor at Ammagaripete, on the borders of Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh, police said here.

One person has been hospitalised in critical condition, after they consumed the liquor on Thursday, police said.

The deceased have been identified Narayanaswamy (40), Kondappa (55), Bajantri Venkataramanappa (55), Venkatappa (50), Venkateshappa (50). All the victims hailed from Chintavarapalli, a village located on the border of Karnataka, police said.

Earlier, a hooch tragedy had claimed the lives of 140 persons in parts of Kolar, Bangalore and Bangalore rural districts in May 2008.
