The Karnataka State Open University will confer honorary doctorates on M.K. Surappa, founding-director of Indian Institute of Technology; Janaki Srinivasamurthy, Kannada writer, and Siddalingaiah, veteran film director, at the annual convocation here on Thursday.
M.G. Krishnan, Vice-Chancellor, KSOU, said here on Wednesday that Prof. Surappa has published more than 100 research papers and obtained three patents in the field of Metal Matrix Composites.
He is a recipient of the Rustom Choskhi Research Award of the Indian Institute of Science. Prof. Surappa is a fellow of Indian National Science Academy and Indian National Academy of Engineering. Ms. Janaki, popularly known by her pen name Vaidehi, has written a number of books, including ‘Mara Gida Balli’, ‘Antharangada Putagalu’, ‘Gola’ and ‘Krauncha Pakshigalu’, among others. Prominent among her poetry collections are ‘Bindu Bindige’ and ‘Parijatha’. She is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award.
Mr. Siddalingaiah, who has directed over 23 films, is known for focusing on social issues.
He received the Puttanna Kanagal award in 1993–94.
