Members of Hasirubhoomi Prathisthana, an organisation of environmentalists, rejuvenated an old pond at Honnavara village in Hassan taluk on Sunday.

Residents of the village, college students and environmentalists took part in the work. So far, the organisation, which was formed last year, has rejuvenated four tanks and 28 ponds in the districts.

Writer Rupa Hassan, Assistant Commissioner H.L. Nagaraj, Taluk Medical Officer Manjunath and others took part.

“Around 60 people, including villagers, participated in the work. The trust has been done a commendable job and it has succeeded in spreading awareness on rainwater harvesting and rejuvenation of water bodies,” said Ahmed Hagare, a convener of the organisation. Every week, volunteers and members of the organisation visit villages and work towards rejuvenating water bodies.
