The Mysuru police have arrested six persons, including two women, for allegedly honeytrapping a Kerala-based businessman in the city. The police said that when T.V. Nisar, a jeweller from Kannur in Kerala, was in Mysuru about a month ago, he received a call from a woman, who later befriended him.
Soon, the woman began enticing the complainant. She then met him in a hotel in Mysuru, along with another woman accomplice. During the meeting, the complainant was videographed in a compromising position with the women.
A DVD of the video with the women was delivered to his house. This was followed by threat calls to the complainant demanding money.
“The initial demand was ₹1 crore, but the accused later scaled it down to ₹25 lakh,” said Mysuru City Police Commissioner A. Subramanyeshwara Rao.
After Mr. Nisar lodged a complaint with the Vijayanagar police here, the case was transferred to the City Crime Branch, which formed a special team.
Investigations revealed that some of the accused involved in the alleged honeytrap racket were natives of Kannur and were familiar with his background and business. The arrested are Yousuf, 40, resident of Chikkamagaluru; and Lathif, 29, Naushad, 39, Rashid, 32, residents of Bengaluru.
