‘My son received several injuries on his body while in Bengaluru jail’

Ananth Murthy, inmate of Hindalga jail who was shifted from Parappana Agrahara prison, had suffered torture in the Bengaluru jail, his father Ramakrishna Bhat alleged on Thursday.

The Chikkamagaluru-based farmer who came to visit his life-term serving son in Hindalga, told presspersons that Ananth Murthy was beaten up so badly that he could neither walk nor relieve himself easily. He has received several injuries on his body. Jail authorities had kicked him on the groin. He has suffered blood clotting and has difficulty urinating, Mr. Bhat told presspersons.

“I felt bad seeing him suffering. He cannot walk properly. I am afraid he may not survive for long.” Mr Bhat also alleged that Hindalga prison officials had lied about his son’s illness.

“The jail chief superintendent T.P. Shesha had said that Ananth Murthy was faking his sickness. This is wrong. Officers have said he was not taken out of the prison and that resident doctors tested him. This is wrong too. Jail staff took him to a private doctor in the city and brought him back after treatment. They have issued gag orders to the staff and inmates not to talk about this to anyone,” he further alleged.

To a question, Mr. Bhat said he would talk to his friends and lawyer about approaching the court against the alleged torture his son suffered in jail.

Ananth Murthy’s friend Gopalkrishna Gowda from Chikkamagaluru accompanied him.
