KRRS activist stage protest over water issue

Vehicular movement on the Bengaluru-Chennai road was hit for some time on Wednesday as the functionaries of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) staged a road blockade on National Highway 75 condemning the alleged failure of the State government in utilising the State’s share in Krishna valley water.

The functionaries squatted on the road at Nangali and raised slogans against the State government. “While the Karnataka government failed to utilise its share, it is pleading with the Andhra Pradesh government to provide 0.5 tmc ft. water for drinking purpose”, KRRS State vice-president K. Narayana Gowda said.

“Successive governments in the State are spending money on several projects in the name of bringing water to parched districts of central Karnataka region, but no project has been implemented yet and officers as well as people’s representatives are making a fast buck out of the public exchequer,” Mr. Gowda alleged and urged the government to draw out a plan to utilise Karnataka’s share in Krishna valley water.
