Highest victory margin is 1.69 lakh votes in Chitradurga

In the last 15 general elections, the highest victory margin was recorded in Chitradurga Lok Sabha constituency in 1971 elections when Kondajji Basappa defeated his rival J.M. Imaam Saab by a margin of 1,69,702 votes. The total polled votes in that election were 3,46,945 in which the winner had secured 2,51,005 votes and the defeated candidate had secured 81,303 votes.

According to official sources, the second highest victory margin was recorded in the constituency in 1989 general elections in which C.P. Mudalagiriyappa defeated Sanchikkappa by a margin of 1,42, 193 votes.

The total polled votes in that elections were 6,93,903 votes in which the winning candidate had secured a total of 3,39,303 votes and the defeated candidate had secured 1,97,110 votes.

The third highest winning margin was recorded in 2009 general elections in which Janardhanswamy defeated B. Tippeswamy by a margin of 1,35,571 votes. The total votes polled in that elections were 8,35,945 in which the winning candidate had secured 3,70,920 and the defeated candidate had secured 2,35,349 votes, sources added.

Lowest margin

The constituency recorded a lowest victory margin in the 1999 general elections in which actor Shashikumar defeated Mr. Mudalagiriyappa by a margin of 11,178 votes. The total polled votes in that election was 8,31,807 in which the winning candidate had secured 3,70,793 votes and the defeated candidate had secured 3,59,615 votes.

The second lowest victory margin was recorded in 1957 elections in which J.M. Imam Saab had defeated S. Rangarao with a margin of 11,189 votes.

The total polled votes in that election was 2,48,507 in which the winning candidate had secured 1,29,848 votes and the defeated candidate had secured 1,18,659 votes, sources said.

The third lowest victory margin was recorded in 1996 elections in which P. Kodandramaiah had defeated Mr. Mudalagiriyappa by a margin of 19,282 votes. The total polled votes in that election were 7,22,785 in which the winning candidate had secured 2,51,617 votes and the defeated candidate had secured 2,32,335 votes, sources added.
